Keytime and the Environment

Environmental Policy

In carrying out our activities as a supplier of business software and services, we have full regard for all environmental issues that affect us.  As a minimum, we promise to comply with all relevant environmental legislation and we strive to continually improve our performance to try to minimise environmental effects.  We achieve this by integrating environmental considerations into our everyday decisions.

To implement this policy, we need the commitment of our people at all levels.  Every person within the organisation has a role to play in meeting company objectives and targets. Appropriate measures are taken to raise awareness of our commitment to the environment.
The impact of current activities on the local environment are continually assessed and monitored.  The environmental impact of all new activities and processes is assessed in advance, and we promote sustainability in all new developments, including protection and maintenance of local eco-systems and encouragement of biodiversity.

Measures are taken, considering the technology available to us, to ensure that our operations minimise pollution and minimise waste production and use of other resources (including raw materials, energy and water). Where waste is generated, it is company policy to reuse or recycle wherever possible. Measures on energy conservation include examining efficient use of transport.

We carefully consider the environmental impact of products used in processes and services and we liaise with suppliers, contractors and subcontractors to facilitate the best possible environmental practices. We also recognise the importance of local environmental issues and so far as is reasonably practicable, support local environmental initiatives.

Suitable arrangements are, and have been made to prevent accidental emissions of materials and we aim to have emergency or contingency procedures in place to deal with any environmental incidents and to minimise the impact of any pollutant effects.

We supply any relevant information on environmental issues both internally and externally, to demonstrate our commitment to environmental improvement.

Our environmental policy complements our health and safety policy and is communicated to our people via the intranet.  We regularly review the policy to reflect any changes in our organisation and operations or in the services that we provide, and to take account of developments in legal obligations or in best practice and available technology.

Waste Management

The Company will implement the following principles in order of priority:

  • Consider implications of waste generation when planning all business development or new activity.
  • Eliminate waste generation where possible.
  • Minimise waste generation at source.
  • Re-use waste materials.
  • Recycle/Recover waste materials.
  • Disposal as last resort if the above options are not available.

Last year, we recycled over 500 kilos of waste, and regularly encourage people to recycle paper and plastic that they no longer need. We also recycle toner cartridges by returning them to our supplier for re-filling.

Minimizing emissions of greenhouse gases

Keytime recognizes that direct energy use from business and transport provides a major proportion of greenhouse gas emission and we will endeavour to reduce our impact by:

  • Where practical, encouraging the use of public transport to attend meetings outside offices (usually rail travel)
  • We have installed cycle parking and lock up facilities and actively encourage employees to cycle to work wherever possible.
  • Encouraging employees to adopt car sharing in their travel to and from work and in travel to meetings

Communication

Keytime will promote its environmental policy and the ethos behind it to staff through the company’s Intranet and management communications. Team managers and supervisors will co-ordinate any needs for training in relation to environmental policies.
